PRODUCTION AND CREATIVE TEAM

HELEN SMITH-TURNER - PRODUCER & ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Helen first stepped onto the stage aged seven and has performed countless times since in a variety of shows including They Shoot Horses Don’t they? and her ultimate favourite Godspell. In 2000 she set up and ran a weekly Junior Workshop in Sussex for children aged 7-11, teaching the three disciplines of Drama, Dance and Singing and created the Theatre Studies Day Workshop for people of all ages to learn the principles of stagecraft, technical theatre and theatre production, both of which are still running.
Having taken the role of Directors Assistant on a production of ‘The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas’ in which she was also performing, Helen decided to concentrate on the production side of Theatre and has been involved with the producing and directing of a variety of plays and musicals including The Government Inspector, Closer, One for the Road, A Mid Summer Nights Dream and The Owl and the Pussycat Went to See.... for different companies in and around Brighton before relocating to Devon.
Helen joined Perform in 2010 as Resident Director and ran a weekly drama improvisation workshop for the company. She directed ‘Allo ‘Allo, The Darling Buds of May, Godspell, Last Tango in Brixham and a selection of short pantomimes for Perform before setting up Turning Point Productions and Entertainment in 2013. Helen produces and directs all of Turning Points shows and coordinates all their events and since returning to Sussex also continues to direct productions for other companies in the South East.


ANDREW SMITH-TURNER - PRODUCER & MUSICAL DIRECTOR

Andrew studied Percussion at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama for four years. After gaining his AGSM in 1994 he toured on a variety of musicals around the UK including Pickwick and Guys and Dolls at The National. He then joined the original cast of Tap Dogs, the Australian dance spectacular as the musician, spending the next four years on the top of a scaffold tower. Andrew went on to become the show's Musical Director for the European and Asian Tour.

Since then Andrew has been the Musical Director for several companies and worked in education teaching music to all age groups from Primary School to Degree Level. He started the choir Perform in 2008, which evolved into Turning Point Productions and Entertainment in 2013. Andrew also heads AST Instrumental, teaching drum kit and percussion as a private tutor in schools and running our weekly Samba Jam Club. He regularly performs in classical and contemporary Music Concerts throughout the South and is also an accomplished Pianist and song writer.


DALE SMITH - RESIDENT CHOREOGRAPHER & DANCE CAPTAIN

Dale trained in Performing Arts at ICC, graduating in 2010 having studied the three disciplines of Drama, Dance and Singing as well as Technical Theatre. Like her Mother she stepped on to the stage aged seven and aside from a two week break in 2012 to have her daughter she has been there ever since. Dale has taken on a variety of lead and supporting roles for Turning Point as well as other companies. She has also choreographed several award winning shows including Godspell.  


TRISTAN SMITH - HEAD OF MEDIA AND PUBLICITY

Tristan studied Games and Interactive Media at South Devon, specialising in Graphic Design and Video Editing. Tristan has been responsible for Turning Point's posters, programmes and photography since he took over the role in 2015. He also films and edits our short films and doubles up as our Bar Manager for shows and events. 

STEPHEN BROWN - TECHNICAL LEAD

Stephen is a qualified Electrician with fifteen years experience in local and national Theatres. He lights a variety of venues including the NEC Birmingham, Selfridges, Bond Street and Lapland UK every Christmas. Stephen is responsible for building event and production sites across the UK for everything from music festivals to ice shows. For Turning Point Stephen heads all things technical including lighting and sound.

DAVID MARTIN - STAGE MANAGER

David has been working in theatres for several years now and is an invaluable member of Turning Point because he can turn his hand to anything. A competent stage manager, lighting and sound assistant and runner, David has trained alongside Stephen Brown and Laurie Moody on a variety of different productions throughout the years.


HILARY SMITH - CATERING AND FRONT OF HOUSE MANAGER

Having run her own Bed & Breakfast and Gite business in the Dordogne, France for several years, Hilary has a wealth of experience in hospitality. Hilary has been catering for large numbers of audiences for many years, having been social secretary for local theatre groups in Sussex. Hilary produces home made food for all Turning Points Supper Theatres and events.
